We stayed in Angkla for 4 nights and I think it was a great experience for us. Highlights: Luxury rooms exceeded my expectations are the beds are comfy and room are spacious. Angkla has also great and friendly staff that welcomes and accomodates you anytime. If you want to be away from the town, close to Nacpan beach, this is your place to be. Just a heads up on the muddy road that you will experience before you reach Angkla. Thank you Angkla for wonderful experience.
I can summarize my experience at ANGKLA Beach Club & Boutique Resort restaurant in two parts. The first about the food and the second about the place itself. The food: Honestly, the food they serve is in poor condition. Minimum cooking points to avoid any disease are not respected. We ordered many dishes with my wife. Beef, squid, shrimp, chicken, etc. The meat is of national quality, it is hard as the sole of a shoe and has a bad taste. To the palate accustomed to eating in 5-star restaurants, clearly this way of cooking is unfair. There is no care on the part of the chef in putting his signature on each dish and even less in cooking with love. The shrimp were raw, the stuffed squid was worse. They gave us a discount on the final bill since the squid and shrimp were inedible, raw... The excuses on the part of the chef and the administrator, do not compensate in any way for the hour of travel by plane, plus the 6 hours in a van and the 1 hour trip to a location that, due to its isolation and lack of work materials in the kitchen, is not worth it. The hotel/restaurant: I will only tell you this: I could have put up with the chef's poor way of cooking, the manager's extremely poor dedication and concern for checking the status of the products in the kitchen... comprehension. But what ruined any attempt to cope with the vicissitudes and contingencies presented by the menu of the restaurant, were the flies. There were flies enough to feed an army of frogs and lizards... I asked the waiters to remove or do something about the flies. They just put a couple of candles on. Actually, the flies are a product of garbage, decomposing food and poor hygiene... Finally, even the glasses of Bordeaux that we ordered to drink a Malbec wine, were in a deplorable state, there is no protocol in this restaurant regarding hygiene and cleanliness. The poorly trained waiters were unable to resolve the concerns of the diners. I don't know how a restaurant in these conditions has managed to charge so high and give poor service.
Such a bomb experience. We initially get a reservation for swim & dine (walk-in is fine too, first come first serve basis), but we later on get a room for convenience and to maximize the experience. And I must say, it's worth it. The ocean is awesome, just be careful with the sandmites and the current. Overall it's a 5 star for me!
You know you've come to a service-oriented place in the Philippines when almost all of the menu items are available and they tell you upfront which ones are not. Angkla is such a place, right by the marvellous Nacpan beach. Service is super-friendly, attentive and quick. The food is tasty but not true to what you'd expect. We had a bacon cheese burger that didn't quite taste like one but was still very satisfying and a lasagne that only contained hints of pasta but went super-well with the home-made potato chips that came with the burger. If we come again for a snack, well probably just get the chips with the lasagne as a dip.
First of all don’t get confused with the reviews from walk ins who come to spend the day only spending min 14€ with the guests who are spending more than 400€ per night. If you think this hotel is exclusive you are wrong, the pool can be full with walk in families and kids. We booked the place months ago when planning our honeymoon. Our expectations were not meet at all: -they knew it was our honeymoon and they didn’t make it special at all, despite of spending 4 nights they gave us the noisiest room next to the kitchen and the bar with the music -we didn’t have proper hot water, we told them few times but nothing was fixed - drinks and food are extremely expensive for the quality you get, next door hotel offers similar one for half of the price - the breakfast was a big disappointment, I was not expecting paying that amount of money and have to pay extra for a juice or cappuccino or late, first time I have seen that - the staff seems to be confused and lost all the time - we had to ask 4 times to get our room cleaned - first day they give you 2 oranges and an apple as courtesy, but not the rest of your stay. as a summary they pretend to be something they are not, the place is extremely expensive for what you get, it seems they care more of the day walk in guest that the hotel guests. we were really excited to stay at Angkla but the disappointment is bigger now. they should remove the boutique concept.
