Booked this place in May 2023. The staff is the saving grace of the hotel - super friendly, attended to my kid when he injured his head, upgraded our room when we complained of low water pressure. Yes, the breakfast was limited to only 2 choices but it was consistently excellent. The servers were always willing to give my kids extra fruits or milk. It is not in the downtown core, so it was a bit tricky to get around. The hotel tricycle driver goes down a slope the hotel is on and then drops off at at intersection near downtown. From that intersection, you have to find your way around. My kids adored the hotel pets though! As soon as they woke up, they’d call for the little hound they have and the 3 kittens that roamed around freely. Loved that they let animals coexist with guests. Definitely a little gem, very affordable— great choice for a family if you prefer a more local experience versus the big swanky hotels in downtown.

Wonderful setting and friendly staff. upon arrival, after the worst night, I had to negotiate the air conditioning in the room I booked, it was really loud, I was ready to give up the place and go to another hotel even though I had made a reservation for a week. The staff handled the situation nicely and as a result my room was changed to a sea front room where the air conditioning was perfect. The hotel's own restaurant is located in the lap of the sea, a really charming location. Although the restaurant's menu seemed good, the food was not very special compared to the price level. However, I could come here again, I think there are only 3 sea front rooms

Decent hotel with a great view of the sea. Around 15 mins walk from the town centre. The hotel offers free ride into town but you might have to wait for 10 mins to get one, so we endee up walking most of the times. The walk is actually nice (make sure to walk by the beach and not the road if there’s light). Wifi was down for the whole time we were there which wasn’t ideal. 3g coverage was also quite bad.

Really didn’t have a great stay in this hotel. Rooms were very dated & old fashioned. There were roosters every day that woke us up early every morning. When they cleaned our room they didn’t replace the toilet roll or towels so we had to ask for them. There was also no shower gel/body wash or soap provided and there were ants in the water they gave us in the room. There was a huge gap under the bedroom door where large lizards got through each night. When we explained this to the receptionist she was of no assistance and didn’t even try to help with the situation at all. The hotel is also a 20 minute walk from the town on an awkward road which can only be accessed by tricycle or scooter. The breakfast menu is extremely limited in the hotel also. Overall not a great experience, the only positive I can think of is the view from the hotel.

My recent stay at Golden Monkey was nothing short of an absolute disaster. What was supposed to be a relaxing vacation on a beautiful island quickly turned into a series of frustrating and even dangerous experiences. No Internet: Let's start with the most basic essential in today's world - internet access. Throughout my entire stay, there was absolutely no internet connection available. This completely disrupted my ability to stay connected with family and friends, and even plan basic activities. In essence, it felt like being cut off from the world. Unprofessional & Dangerous Tour Guides: I booked a private island hopping tour through the hotel, excited to explore the surrounding beauty. However, what awaited me were unprofessional and frankly dangerous guides. During one instance, while enjoying the water, my friend unfortunately began to struggle and was in danger of drowning. To my absolute horror, the guides not only failed to provide any assistance but sat idly by and even laughed at the situation. This disregard for our safety was beyond appalling and left me feeling incredibly shaken. Broken Bikes: Seeking alternative ways to explore the island, I decided to rent bikes from the hotel. Unfortunately, this turned into a recurring comedy of errors. Each time I rented a bike, it turned out to be faulty or in some way unusable. Broken brakes and flat tires became my constant companions. Lack of Basic Amenities: The absence of an intercom in the room was another major inconvenience. For even the smallest request, I was forced to trek down to the reception, wasting precious time and adding to the overall frustration. Disregarded Transportation Request: Finally, to top it all off, upon booking my airport drop-off, I specifically requested front seats due to personal reasons. Despite explicitly mentioning this requirement, the hotel completely disregarded it and assigned me the very last seats in the vehicle. This lack of care and attention to detail was the final nail in the coffin of my disastrous stay. Overall, my experience at Golden Monkey was a complete and utter disappointment. The lack of basic amenities, unprofessional staff, and disregard for guest safety and requests make it a place to avoid at all costs. I strongly urge anyone considering this hotel to look elsewhere. Your well-being and a relaxing vacation
